Fun Skill Games: Hockey Training

A set of skill games for a youth hockey center in my neighborhood. I coached and administered my community’s 700-youth hockey program for nearly a decade, serving as president 2010-2014. I put my design work to the test of developing some training aids at our local training center.

A server connected with barcode athlete IDs permits progress tracking. The design focus is on a wide age range and skill levels while maintaining engagement. Training is motivated through fun games of skill.

I designed and implemented all aspects of the system, including the hardware (a custom PCB for optical sensor input to USB event output). The optical input to USB output peripheral hardware is usable in all manner of station configurations.

I Fabricated all the plastics, wrote the game station software, and the back-end server and web application (Joomla). The game station software is a single application that when a provisioning barcode is scanned becomes a station-specific presentation below.
